Where next for the Mid-life MOT. An ILC Partners Programme event
Date: Tuesday 24 September 2019
Time: 8.30am (for 9.00am) – 11.00am
Location: London
ILC held an exclusive roundtable, hosted by Aviva, to discuss the ongoing work by Aviva into delivering their Mid-life MOT, an educational programme for people aged 45+ designed to help them manage their wealth, work and wellbeing.
By 2030, half of all adults in the UK will be over 50 years old. At the same time, there is a growing shortfall of younger people entering employment. As such, retaining older workers in the workplace has never been more important. The Mid-life MOT is a novel approach intended to facilitate both fuller working lives and improved planning for later life.
Following a pilot in 2017/18, Aviva has rolled out their MOT to all staff, while the government has developed its own online offer available since February 2019. Previous research has suggested a range of benefits from Mid-life MOTs, and the experiences of Aviva create an opportunity for learning.
This roundtable, part of the ILC Partners Programme, brought together a select group of stakeholders from business, research, policy, and practice who are engaged with the ageing and longevity agenda. It centred on a presentation from Aviva about their experiences, followed by a discussion and debate on how Mid-life MOTs form part of the wider business response to population ageing.
