Supper debate with Dr Lisa Cameron MP: Mental health across the life course
Date: Wednesday, 2 March 2022
Time: 6.30pm (for 7.00pm) – 9.30pm
Location: ILC office
We know that mental health affects us all, at all life stages. We know it’s one of the leading causes of ill health. We know it’s one of the main reasons for people leaving the workforce early. Yet, lots of people still suffer in silence. Spending on mental health is still dwarfed compared to overall health spending. And we still don’t understand enough about the impact of mental health across the life course.
We hosted an informal dinner debate, where we was joined by Dr Lisa Cameron MP, Chair of the Health APPG and previously Consultant Psychiatrist, to discuss:
- What are the key triggers and causes of poor mental health across the life course? And how do these link with inequality?
- What has the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic been on mental health across all generations? And are we doing enough to overcome the ‘mental health crisis’?
- What are the economic and social costs of poor mental health? What more could Government and employers do to support wellbeing?
- How do we think about mental health? How likely are we to talk about our mental health or seek help? And are there generational differences?
- What more can we do to promote mental wellbeing at all stages of life? What should ILC be doing in this space?
