ILC argues that Government should legislate for flexible working

Oct 10, 2018 | NEWS

Speaking to the Lords Intergenerational Fairness Committee on 9 October 2018, Dr Brian Beach argued that:

  • Government should use public policy to realise “fuller working lives” rather than “longer working lives”.
  • Government should legislate to ensure that new jobs are advertised as flexible unless employers can demonstrate a clear business case against doing so.
  • Government should better coordinate its public policy leadership on longevity.

Our 2014 report on The Missing Million revealed that of the 3.3 million economically inactive people aged 50-64, approximately 1 million people have been made ‘involuntarily workless’.

The full evidence from Dr Beach is shown here, starting from 12:36:20.
