ILC Global Alliance webinar: the nexus of longevity and climate action

Date: Thursday 24 October 2024
Time: 1.00pm to 2.15pm BST
Location: Zoom

The climate crisis and longevity are the most important phenomena of our times. In order to sustain our societies as we know them, we must urgently adapt our policies, industries, and ways of living and working. It is absolutely possible for countries to support more people to live more years than ever in a sustainable manner. We are not seeing action on either issue from many governments around the world. The ILC Global Alliance Climate Change Committee are advocating for all governments to take a joint approach to climate and longevity, centring the needs and experiences of those most adversely affected.

The outcomes we are seeking from this webinar are to build understanding and consensus on the links between the two issues, which are too often considered in isolation. The fact that they are interconnected, and supporting more people to live more years has consequences for our collective impact on the planet, is rarely acknowledged. Our objective for this webinar is to build a movement and coalition in a space where there is a clear gap in advocacy.

The ILC Global Alliance is a network of 16 organisations working worldwide across various aspects of longevity. Together, we advocate for policy change and greater understanding of the interplay between both issues, and we will convene expert stakeholders to shed light on what is needed for decision-makers to move the needle on both issues and secure a safer and more sustainable future.

Confirmed speakers include:

  • Professor Karl Pillemer, Gerontologist, Cornell University
  • Dr. Mayeso Chinseu Lazaro, Educator and Researcher, University of Malawi
  • Nicola Torley, Longevity Consultant, Hymans Robertson
