Working lunch: Improving vaccination uptake among patients with chronic conditions across Europe
Date: Tuesday, 12 October 2021
Time: 12.30pm – 3.00pm CEST
Location: Brussels, Belgium
Alongside the Coalition for Life-course Immunisation (CLCI), we held a working lunch to discuss ways of improving vaccination uptake among patients with chronic conditions in Europe.
The COVID-19 pandemic has acted as a stark reminder about the importance of immunisation. This is especially true in individuals with chronic conditions, who are at greater risk from disease and mortality.
Despite this, vaccine uptake among patients with long-term health conditions across Europe remains concerningly low; for example, in groups at risk, no EU Member State has reached the WHO/Europe influenza vaccine uptake target of 75%.
At this working lunch, we showcased a discussion paper looking at the current practices, barriers and opportunities for immunisation among patients with chronic conditions across Europe.
This discussion will help to inform a set of policy recommendations for a final report, aimed at advising policymakers, health organisations and patient charities on how to improve vaccine uptake among risk groups in Europe.
