Report launch: Spending with dementia – Making the high street dementia-friendly

Dates: Thursday, 27 October 2022

Time:  11.00am – 4.00pm (1.30pm – 3.30pm report launch)

Location: Stirling University

The Retail therapy report was launched at the University of Stirling, where we held a panel debate on how to make the high street work better for people with dementia.

An Alzheimer’s Society survey found that almost 80% of people with dementia list shopping as one of their favourite activities. In 2019, households with someone living with dementia were expected to spend £16.7 billion.

But from inaccessible public transport to a lack of public toilets and confusing payment systems, too many people with dementia are locked out of spending on the products and services they want.

Delegates joined us at the University of Stirling, and virtually, for the launch of our findings of a major research project, supported by the abrdn Financial Fairness Trust, which unpicks how we can support people with dementia on the high street.
