Pensions and longevity: Provision for an ageing population

Date: Tuesday 6 June 2023

Time: 1.30pm – 3.00pm (BST)

Location: Virtual

This year various governments, including in the UK, have made a succession of announcements around pensions and the state pension age but what are the mid-to-longer-term impacts on the public purse? As our population continues to age, albeit more slowly than previously, can our pensions system properly support us in the years to come?

This webinar is the third in a series of events we are organising with the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) to explore the role of longevity in the greatest policy challenges we face as an ageing population. A range of experts in this field has been invited to identify the links between pensions and longevity and to discuss if our pensions system is sustainable and sufficient.

The webinar will be chaired by:

  • Sue Lewis, Chair, Consumer Advisory Board and ILC Trustee

Speakers so far include:

  • John Cridland, First independent reviewer of the State Pension age (2016-17)
  • Owen Dimbylow – Government Actuary’s Department (GAD)
  • Leah Evans, Chair, IFoA Pensions Board
  • Steve Webb, Partner, Lane, Clarke & Peacock and former Minister of State for Pensions
