Webinar – Longevity in research and policy: What happens next

Date: Thursday, 30 April 2020
Time: 11.00am – 12.30pm

Trends in longevity have driven extraordinary demographic changes and altered the way we learn and work, where and how we live, and how we deliver care. Society will not just be older in the future, it will also function differently. The coronavirus pandemic has further put this in sharp relief and raised even deeper questions in this regard.

This webinar highlighted three key perspectives that should shape future research and policy development: maximising the benefits of longevity; addressing diversity and inequalities across the life course; and understanding how policy can work for current as well as future generations’ needs.

ILC has been working to put these perspectives at the heart of our work, and the coronavirus pandemic – while undoubtedly impacting all of us in multiple (and unforeseen) ways – does little to change these.

In the webinar, Dr Brian Beach, Senior Research Fellow at ILC, outlined these three perspectives and their application across a spectrum of relevant issues, illustrated through examples from ILC work and beyond.
