The ILC announces a new Chair and a refreshed Board of Trustees

Nigel Waterson has been appointed as the new Chair of Trustees for the International Longevity Centre – UK (ILC). He will be guiding a Board with a wealth of talent, some fresh faces, and an impressive range of expertise.

Professor Martin Green OBE, ILC’s outgoing Chair said “The ILC has appointed outstanding new Trustees, who together with the skills knowledge and experience of the existing Board, and under the leadership of Nigel Waterson and David Sinclair, will be able to take the ILC into an even more successful future. it was an enormous honour for me to Chair the ILC, and I know the new Chair, Board and Executive will lead the organisation into a new era.”

Nigel Waterson has been a Trustee of the ILC since 2010. He was formerly a Conservative MP and Shadow Pensions Minister and Shadow Minister for Older People. He was also a long-serving Chair of the All Party Group for Older People at Westminster.

Nigel Waterson, new Chair of ILC Board said “I am honoured and excited to be taking on this role, leading a refreshed and reinvigorated trustee board.  As we start the countdown to the next Election, the ILC has a vital role in ensuring politicians of all parties are fully informed on the issues around longevity”.

The other members of the ILC’s Board of Trustees are:

  • Sanjeev Chhugani, FCMA, CGMA (Treasurer) has extensive corporate finance, banking & investments (including treasury) and startup/entrepreneurial experience – living in developing (in Africa, Asia) countries as well developed (UK, USA) markets.
  • Shaun Crawford is the Chairman of Insurwave, a new business model for the Marine Insurance market based on blockchain technology. He retired from EY in June 2021 where he held the position of Global Vice Chair of Industry at EY.
  • Prof Alexander Evans OBE is Professor in Practice in Public Policy at the London School of Economics where he teaches ‘Anticipatory Policymaking’ and directs the MPA in Data Science and Public Policy.
  • Tim Fassam is Public Affairs Director at Phoenix Group, where he is responsible for public policy and government relations
  • Paul Green was Saga’s group communications director for over 13 years, where he developed the group’s campaigning, public policy research and lobbying in the UK and EU; and before that led communications and brand for a pension and financial services provider.
  • Jean Jackson’s background is in technology, education and marketing. Before retiring, she was Communications Business Partner for IT at Rolls-Royce, and was Programme Manager for their Digital Academy. Since then, she’s been on the board of the St Chad’s Academy Trust, and Trustee of Lichfield u3a.
  • Sue Lewis has been an independent board member and consultant for the past 12 years and was previously a senior civil servant in the Treasury. Her current roles include Specialist Adviser to the Treasury sub-committee on financial services regulation, and lay member of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries Regulatory Board.
  • Helene Panzarino is a Director with the Centre for Digital Banking and Finance in LIBF, part of the Vacuumlabs Community Bank team, an experienced FinTech Programme Director, exited entrepreneur, educator and author.
  • Glyn Ryland is by background a pensions lawyer and an Accredited Trustee. He is also a trustee of the George Fentham Charity and Educational Trust.
  • Annabel Scarfe MBE is an experienced director, facilitator, consultant, and coach. She knows health and social care very well having worked with and for the NHS and its partner organisations for over 30 years.
  • Janet Sutherland, CIHM, AoU has over 30 years’ experience in housing and regeneration, in local government, housing associations, the voluntary and private sectors.  Her work includes neighbourhood renewal, effective community engagement, urbanism and housing for older people,
  • Dr Pol Vandenbroucke, MD, MSc, MBA, FFPM is Chair of the Global Longevity Council at the World Demographic and Aging Forum. Dr Vandenbroucke serves on the Boards of the American Federation for Aging Research, the World Demographic and Aging Forum and the IFAPP Academy.
