G7 high-level side event in Hiroshima: Covid recovery and prevention

Date: Thursday 18 May 2023

Time: 6.30pm – 8.30pm (JST)

Location: Hiroshima, Japan

Alongside the G7 Hiroshima Summit 2023 in May, the ILC will be holding a high-level side event to set out priorities for health prevention including life-course immunisation in a post-pandemic society.

In 2019, the ILC hosted similar successful events at the G20 in Japan. This exclusive dinner debate in Hiroshima on Thursday 18 May will bring together high-level stakeholders from across the Ministerial delegations, business and the third sector to identify solutions to the common challenges of demographic change.

At the G7 this year, we will disseminate our work on Healthy Ageing and Prevention Index. This global Index ranks countries on key healthy ageing and preventative health metrics and finds the UK ranked 16th globally and second out of the G7 nations. The potential ‘longevity dividend’ of improving prevention and supporting longer and healthier working lives is a key opportunity for Finance Ministers across the G20. Even investing as little as 0.1% in prevention can result in 9% increased spending by adults aged 60 or over. The economic benefits of harnessing this longevity dividend could be enormous as populations continue to increase and grow older.
