A broad network of charities, housing and older people’s organisations has published an open letter to the Home Builders Federation who are thwarting local councils’ efforts to ensure that good homes are built for an ageing population.
There is growing evidence of the extent to which the Home Builders Federation (HBF) is challenging local councils who try to set accessibility standards for new homes. HBF has made submissions to at least 17 authorities, from Liverpool to Sevenoaks.
ILC has signed the letter which strongly supports the councils who are taking positive steps to ensure our housing stock meets the current and future needs of older people and urges HBF to change its position.
The Guardian has taken up the issue in this article published last week.
