Since our last media update, ILC-UK has gained national and international TV and radio coverage and national print coverage for our work on dementia, retirement transitions and the 2017 Future of Ageing Conference.

The Future of Ageing Conference was featured in two articles in The Times (additional article), three in the Daily Mail (here, here and here), one in the Sun and one in the Evening Standard. There were a total of 9 items of coverage to date, with an audience reach of 16 million.

Joint policy reports produced for two research consortia (led by UCL and Kent University) who collaborated on a project on retirement transitions received media coverage in The Telegraph, the Daily Mail (twice) and the I. Report contributors were also interviewed on a variety of local BBC radio stations, and Dr Brian Beach delivered oral evidence based on the reports to the Women and Equalities Select Committee.

The report from ILC-UK’s Commission on Dementia and Music, ‘What would life be – without a song or dance, what are we?’ was featured on the BBC Breakfast programme, ITV’s The Lorraine Show, Sky News and Israel’s Channel 10 news. Contributors were interviewed for a variety of regional and national BBC Radio stations, and the report was also the focal point for the FT’s Health podcast. In print media, the report was the front page lead in The Express, and also featured in The Telegraph, The Guardian, the FTand the Daily Mail. Notable Twitter mentions came from the accounts of Debbie Abrahams MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Work and Pensions; Luciana Berger MP, Member of the Health Select Committee; James Sanderson, Director of Personalised Care, NHS England, and Neville Southall, former Everton goalie.

The Guardian and the FT Adviser provided coverage of ‘Inequalities in Later Life’, the Centre for Ageing Better’s first scoping review conducted by ILC-UK and Newcastle University. Additional media coverage includes commentary on social care in The Express; ongoing coverage of our report The Global Savings Gap on the US’ CNBC and Baroness Sally Greengross’ participation in a discussion on dementia held on the BBC’s Victoria Derbyshire programme.
